Opinionated About Dining (OAD), the leading source of global restaurant rankings for devout diners, announce the Top 100+ European Restaurants list in London in 2018, with some of Europe’s most celebrated chefs convening in the Great Hall of Sir Christopher Wren’s iconic Royal Hospital Chelsea for a collaborative multi-course banquet. Christened by OAD founder Steve Plotnicki as ‘The Great Roast’, the dinner presented a unique, gourmet take on a classic British roast.
“Enjoying a British roast has always been one of my favourite ways to spend Sundays in London. I thought doing a gourmet version of one, where some of OAD’s highest ranking chefs in the UK are complemented by some of the top chefs in Europe, would result in a spectacular combination of fabulous food and great fun. ” Steve Plotnicki, OAD
British chefs at the banquet included Isaac McHale (The Clove Club), James Knappett (Kitchen Table), Merlin Labron-Johnson (Clipstone and Portland), Simon Rogan (L’Enclume, Aulis and Roganic) and Stephen Harris (The Sportsman) whilst Alain Weissgerber (Taubenkobel), Angel Leon (Aponiente), Bjorn Frantzen (Restaurant Frantzen), Christian Bau (Victor’s Fine Dining by Christian Bau), Jonnie Boer (De Librije), Kobe Desramaults (Chambre Séparée) and Poul Andrias Ziska (Koks) represented the best of Europe’s fine-dining scene.
“As one of the finest gastronomic destinations of the world, and with so many new chefs and a multitude of cultures and cuisines represented, it feels absolutely right to announce the new winners London this year. And what could be more appropriate than hosting the grandest of roasts in the grandest of British venues? The Grade 2 listed Royal Hospital Chelsea dates from 1609 and is steeped in history and tradition, much like Britain’s Sunday Roasts.” Steve Plotnicki.
